One year from today, the time has finally come: the UEFA European Football Championship starts. A whole tournament only in Germany. I am really looking forward to it.
The opening game will take place in Munich, the city where my girlfriend and I currently live. It will finally start on Friday, June 14: Germany will play in Munich’s Allianz Arena. The draw for who the DFB-Team will play will not be made until December. But I’m already looking forward to the game, regardless of who it’s against.
For an entire summer, everything will revolve around the tournament. Of course, that brings back a lot of memories of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which only strengthened my love of soccer back then. For me, as a 13-year-old at the time, it was an incredible experience to have the whole world as guests in my country. Four weeks of nothing but good weather, a game almost every night, staying up late despite school the next day, quickly gambling for Panini stickers during the break at school: everything about it was special for me.
Unfortunately, I didn’t attend a game on site at the time. I’d definitely like to change that at the 2024 Euros. Four group games, one round of 16 game and one semifinal will take place in the Allianz Arena – and I would of course like to be in the stadium for all six games.
Just recently, I was back in the arena for FC Bayern’s last home game of the season against Leipzig. Even though the defeat on the 33rd matchday hurt, of course, our experience in the stadium was amazing. And the season still ended well for me as a Bayern fan, of course 🙂
I’m also looking forward to everything that will take place around the games. The city has already confirmed that there will be a big fan festival in the Olympic Park. And we fans will certainly be offered a lot of other things as well.
Munich is an amazing host for such events and the city will do everything to make sure that the fans and also the teams feel at home. Tickets for the games are available from the 3rd of October – wish me luck 🙂
In short: Munich will be at the center of the European soccer world in a year’s time and I can’t wait to be part of this historic event.
